Have you determined to strive for excellence in your leadership? (110-3)
We serve a God that is committed to excellence and perfection in everything He does. Likewise, godly leaders should work with all their heart and give their best effort all of the time. Read 2 Chronicles 2-6.
Solomon saw to it that the design and construction of the temple was done with care and excellence. He knew that his mission was to glorify God in the construction of this building, and he shared his father David’s vision and passion for the task.
Solomon committed himself to excellence every step of the way, including the hidden areas. A few examples of how Solomon’s commitment to excellence shows up:
- In Chapter 2 – Solomon makes preparation for the temple when he offers sacrifices daily consecrating the work.
- In Chapter 3 – Solomon made sure each area had specific dimensions. He specified exact sizes and decorations for each room.
- In Chapter 4 – Solomon details the furnishings. He furnishes the temple with extravagant accessories.
- In Chapter 5 – Solomon brings the Ark of the Covenant to the temple. He takes great care to transport it to meet the criterion established by Moses.
- In Chapter 6 – Solomon leads a dedication service. He models godly motives, understanding of the past and excellence in his choice of words.
Are there situations in your leadership where you have determined your results are “good enough” rather than striving for excellence? If the Lord were to schedule an evaluation of your work tomorrow, would you be looking forward to the report? Can you identify practical ways to create a desire for excellence in all your work? Can you find someone on your team who is committed to excellence and allow them to become the final check on your team’s work, including yours? Leaders who model a commitment to excellence reap the rewards and their people tend to emulate the same concern for excellence.
