Do your priorities involve bringing glory to God? (154-2)
Leaders experience long term benefits when they get their priorities right. Read Isaiah 40:6-8.
A leader’s life can get complicated and setting priorities can become confusing. Leaders need to decide what matters most or they become victims of the loudest voice or the latest demand. When some alluring “prize” seems to be within a leader’s reach, it is easy to cash in everything and go for it. Some leaders mortgage their whole life for the next promotion, the next goal, or the next award. Isaiah’s words in verses six through eight are a powerful reminder of what lasts and what doesn’t.
Since every leader has limited resources, priorities matter. Too often leaders assume resources to be financial, human or material but probably a leader’s most limiting resources are time and energy. Setting a priority to invest time and energy in one project takes it away from another. As important as success, security, and significance are, there is something more meaningful that needs to be on a leader’s “priority radar”—determining where to invest their time and energy.
According to Isaiah 40:8, ultimately, a Christian leader’s priorities need to center around living to the principles found in God’s word. First Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” With that purpose in mind a Christian leader can set priorities for use of their time and energy by discovering what will bring the greatest recognition to God. That may mean attaining great success and having the spotlight focused on your achievements so you can give God the credit or it may mean serving faithfully with little or no recognition simply trusting God to use your example for His purposes.
What are your top five priorities in life? How many of them involve bringing glory to God and how many center around selfish ambition for personal gain and recognition? Wise leaders give their dead level best to every assignment so God will receive the glory.
