Do you wonder if your leadership will pass the “fool-test”? (147 -3)

Job titles are meaningless if those who hold them are considered “fools” by their followers. Read Ecclesiastes 10:5-7.

Designing the organization is important. Properly filling the positions you have designed is critical. According to Jim Collins’ book Good to Great an organization must not only have the right people on the bus but the right people must also be in the right seats. Solomon calls it an “evil” to have the wrong people (fools) in positions of leadership.

In the Bible those who are called “fools” generally lack good sense or good judgment. It is an offensive term that describes more than actions but goes to character and values that drive their actions. It is only reasonable to think these leaders had some special skills that brought them into their leadership role but even with impressive skills, if a leader has defective character they run the risk of being considered a fool.

For foolish leaders to change they must focus on developing character along with their skills. The best source of information for character development is the Bible. Listen to these words written by the Apostle Paul to the Philippian church to help two leaders who had been acting foolishly. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:8-9).

Do you wonder if your leadership will pass the “fool-test” when you and your team comes under pressure? In 2 Peter 1:5-8 there is a list of Christlike character elements i.e. goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love that when possessed in increasing measure will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive.
