Are you seeking to deepen your relationship with God? (130-4)

Christian leaders have a place to turn for help in good and turbulent times. Read Psalm 146.

Every leader has role models that have shaped their leadership. These are individuals they look to on a regular basis for guidance and someone they can go to or call on when they are in a time of great success or when they get in over their head. These role models have a face and address. I have always considered these role models as gifts that God brought into my life.

Psalm 146 helps us to understand that as valuable as these role models are their ability to give guidance is limited. We are instructed, “Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men.” That does not mean we abandon help from those we consider a role model but it does mean that leaders must have a source of help that is beyond what other individuals can provide. In Psalm 146 King David tells us, “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – the Lord who remains faithful for ever.”

David’s relationship with God was such that he saw God as not only the sovereign of the universe but a friend, a counselor, a confidant, and a guide for good and difficult times. David had a place to turn for help no matter his isolation from his family, friends, or his team. Do you have the depth of relationship with God that is above “princes or mortal men?” Wise Christian leaders are constantly seeking to deepen their relationship with God.

Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.”
