Are you creating a team of individuals with complementary strengths? (65-5)
God established the concept of working in teams. Read Genesis 2:18-24.
God realized that it was not good for Adam to work alone. He created for Adam a teammate that was a perfect match for his needs and complement to his skills. It is interesting that God did not clone Adam but made an entirely new creature that complimented Adam’s skills. Adam and Eve were not one mind but could function as one mind.
Several times powerful leaders have said “if I could just clone myself and be two places at once, I could accomplish more than twice as much and the job would get done right.” It is an interesting concept but one born out of ego not God’s Word. God’s perfect plan creates teams from individuals with complementary strengths.
Effective leaders know themselves very well and understand the need for teammates that off-set their weaknesses and compliment their skills. When they are enlarging their team, wise leaders look for someone that has a mission match, a heart match and complementary strengths instead of someone just like themselves.
Note that God “took one of the man’s ribs and… made a woman from the rib.” The purpose of a rib is to protect the heart, lungs, and other organs. Effective leaders understand that they are not fully protected without teammates.
Memorize Proverbs 3:4-5: “If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself.” (Living Bible)
